Aesthetic Perception-- Students recognize and use the visual arts as a form of communication

Recognize and apply the Principles of Design: Rhythm Repetition, pattern (simple and complex) Proportion, size relationships Balance (symmetry) Variety 

Recognize and apply the elements of art: Lines (straight, curved, zigzag, wavy, horizontal, vertical, diagonal, spiral, broken, and horizontal) Shapes (geometric, variation of size, open and closed) Form (geometric and organic) Texture (rough, smooth, hard, soft) Space (actual and implied, overlapping, positive and negative, empty and full, close and far, point of view, foreground, middleground, and background) Color (schemes – primary, secondary, warm and cool, color wheel concept) Value (light and dark). 

Explore ways of creating lines and shapes with a variety of materials and tools in artwork.

Construct a three dimensional form 

Use a variety of media on different types of paper 

  Recognize the difference between two dimensional and three dimensional art 

Create a two dimensional artwork using overlapping to create the illusion of depth ( e.g. collage or mixed media) 

Create a simple print (e.g. stencil, stamping,etc.) 

  Create a weaving from a variety of materials.   

  Identify and discuss sacred art. 

After listening to literature or folktales from a variety of cultures, create an illustration. 

Identify and talk about art in their community.

Become familiar with artists and art styles from various cultures.
